From 8 to 15 September 2024, Professor Daniela Ladiana from the Department of Architecture, together with students from the Degree Courses in Architecture and Sustainable Habitat Science, will participate in the international workshop on ‘CULTURA MATERIAL NO ALENTEJO’ as part of the Erasmus + Blended Intensive Programme, to explore the methods and techniques of traditional construction in southern Portugal.
Also participating in the BIP, organised by the University of Porto and coordinated by the University of Granada, are the Universitat Politècnica de València, the IUAV University of Venice, the ‘Gabriele d'Annunzio’ University of Chieti-Pescara and the Polytechnic University of Bari.
The workshop, which brings together academics, professionals representing local architectural culture and experts in construction techniques, with final-year students from architecture degree courses, aims to deepen the knowledge of traditional earthen architectures, in their architectonical, constructive and performance characteristics and techniques for maintenance and preservation.
The six universities will take 36 students, together with 14 professors and researchers, to develop a programme of activities in the territory of the municipality of Odemira that will lead to the discovery of old and new constructions in the contexts of the villages of: Almograve, Cavaleiro, S. Luis and S. Teotonio.
